Hope

Where are you from? Where do you call home? What are you doing today? What are you gonna be doing tomorrow? These are not always easy questions to answer. I spent the majority of my years in Mississippi with a  four year stop in central Florida. Now Tennessee is where I lay my head. I am proud of where I come from. I’m also happy where I am today. My wife and girls and I will have been in Nashville for six years in July. It will be the longest my wife and I have been in one place in almost 17 years of marriage. We will remain here for the un foreseeable future. How long that is into the future remains to be seen. Nobody knows where any of us will be tomorrow.  Abraham Lincoln said “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” That’s great advice, Mr. President, but the future can still seem uncertain. Are you certain about your future? It’s tough for me to say that I am. “Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you gain wisdom in the future.” Proverbs 19:20. I will listen for advice from the Holy Spirit.

The future I see is always going to be better than the present. Though that’s not always

a guarantee. It’s what pushes me forward each and everyday. I encourage those reading this to try looking at it that way. It’s easy to lose sight of today. We’re so busy thinking about tomorrow.  We should all live in the moment of today. “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24. The scripture still rings true, but it’s still important to contemplate the future. I encourage anybody out there to think about the future. Just don’t lose sight of today in the process.

Life is a balance between the present and the future. It’s easy to get caught in between today and tomorrow. I know I can relate to being stuck in the middle. I try to live each day to its fullest. I also wonder what tomorrow will bring. I need in my life now to focus on today. Each day is a gift for all of us. It’s especially a gift for me. I wasn’t always guaranteed a tomorrow, even more than most people. I’ve had many brushes with my life ending. I am thankful that I’m alive and well in this moment. Treasure each day, but keep hope alive and well for the future.

  1. Love this post, Roddy! It reminds me of the song that Joey Feek sings with Bradley Walker...'In the time that you gave me'. Definitely makes me think!
